reality check

sitting in the breakroom this afternoon, i looked out the window and noticed a strange woman in the parking lot of my building.  she was walking away, toward the line of trees that surrounds the complex.  her walk was slow and deliberate.  she got to the edge of the pavement and stopped, looking pensively out, but at nothing in particular.  she was caught up in something else altogether; and it was then that i knew she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.

seeing her today reminded me that no matter what i’m struggling with in my own life, there are people out there struggling with far bigger things, things i will never know, things i can’t even imagine.

it was my own personal reality check, just when i needed it, courtesy of an unknowing stranger.
