solar eclipse

solar eclipse

the moon is always jealous of the heat of the day,

just as the sun always longs for something dark and deep.

here’s my view of the may 20, 2012 annular solar eclipse.  i was looking across the san diego bay toward coronado.

an annular elipse occurs when the moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than the sun, causing the sun to look like an annulus (ring).  it’s also known as a ring of fire.  this event was not visible from the eastern united states, so i was happy to discover it coincided with my trip to san diego.

it doesn’t happy often, but sometimes, everything seems to come together just right.
